Counselling Style

My approach to counseling is to provide an emotionally safe place for you to speak openly about your concerns and struggles. I offer a Solutions Focused, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) - Client Centered approach that allows you to start where you are comfortable and move at your own pace.  I will enclourage you to explore your personal issues and we will develop a treatment plan that works for you.

Together we will focus on developing positive solutions, that will help you to find peace and restore a feeling of balance and well-being to your life.

My clients have different ways of learning and processing their experiences so I take into consideration your particular learning style and adapt the counselling sessions to provide the best opportunity for you to achieve your desired goals. For this reason I use a combination of counselling methods.

However, I primarily use the following:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy teaches you how changing your relationship to your thoughts can change your feelings and actions.
  • Focusing-Oriented Therapy invites you to access your ‘felt sense’ or overall experience of an issue, as opposed to just your thoughts or feelings about it. This provides a different way of relating to or being with the problem, which in turn can help you more easily find the path to solving your problems.
  • Family Systems Therapy explores the roles and relationships in our family of origin and how we can unconsciously re-enact those roles even when not in the presence of our family members. Ultimately, family systems therapy helps you move on from past family experiences that no longer serve you.
  • Motivational Interviewing assists you in strengthening your own motivation to clarify and strengthen your ability to change.
  • Solution Focused Therapy, also referred to as Brief Therapy, recognizes the present and the future with the focus on achieving your current goals.

I accept VISA/MASTER CARD, Cash, Interac Debit or E-transfer Payments.

Extended Health Insurance Coverage:

There are many insurance companies that provide coverage for counselling. Please contact your insurance provider to determine how many sessions you are covered for, what the coverage amount per session is, and what benefits are covered with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I ask that my clients pay for the counselling services at the time of service. You will be reimbursed for your therapy sessions by your insurance provider.   Some benfit plans include a Health Spending Account that covers counselling.

Please contact me for further details.

Blue Cross typically accepts Registered Clinical Counsellors.

Manulife offers HSA, please check your plan to confirm.
